Out in Toulouse

I’m going out for dinner with some friends today wearing my new vintage dress and a clutch bag I picked up at a flee-marked last week. My second bargain of the day is a subscription for French Vouge, 12 issues for 20 euroes. I have always loved French Vouge for its sense of taste and of course for the many(!) and exceptionally beautiful ads from the big fashion houses.

The Stiletto Effect gave me the "Rockin' Girl Blogger" Award som time ago and I haven’t had time to comment on it, but now I do: “I want to thank my sister for pushing me to blog, and to cool people who read my blog”. I am supposed to pass it on to 5 other bloggers, and I will, sometime…

So, I’ve got internet now, hah (Ellen:1 France:0).

Ellen’s closet is kind of stripped down these days caused by the fact that I was only able to bring 1/10 of it down here, so I am raiding the shops in my new home town looking for new things to spice up my daily life.

These days I am dreaming of an oversized clutch bag like the one Scarlett is posing with in this LV ad. I am really into the big ones and am looking for a vintage leather version. I made a little collage with some eyecandy I found at Bluefly.com and net-a-porter.com.

I know that clutches have been in the fashion picture for some time now, but I just really think that a clutch is the ideal party bag, the only drawback is of course that it is easier to loose if you get lost in the champagne.

But over to today’s big event (oh joyful day): a friend of mine googled my page to find the web address, and she found an article on the web witch uses two phrases from my page.

So, my blog has kind of been dead lately, sorry.

The reason is primarily because I do not yet have internet in my apartment. Not that it came as a huge surprise, but it turned out to be quite a project in France.

First of all you have to fill out a dozen forms (in French), then you have to go to French telecom to get a phone line (with about 10 copies of passport, accommodation attest etc.) It is not until this line is open that you can actually order the broadband, from a different company (but bien suuûr). This whole process took about 3 days, but at least they promised me that I would have it within 3 weeks…..

I have internet at my uni now, but to use it you ought to order a student number online(!).

Moving to France is quite the cultural shock for a little Norwegian girl, but very soon I hope to be speaking parfait français. Hopefully I will also be as stylish as the French.. soon!

Today I am wearing my new dress/top from French chain store: Berschca with a stretch belt I picket up at a Toulousian-flee marked. I am still not over stretch belts, I just love how they can entirely change an outfit.

So I am finally installed in my new apartment in Toulouse and am able to blog again. Turns out that Toulouse has many awesome vintage shops so I feel right at home.

Anyways, I have been meaning to blog about pantyhose’s for some time now. Fabulous pantyhose’s in dark colours as grey, blue and green were all over the catwalk for fall 2007. It is a great way to show some leg but still look decent and chic. I love those girls who wears dresses and heels also in the fall. They make the world a prettier place.

I love combining a dark pair with shoes in light shades.

I am moving to Toulouse tomorrow at 06:00 AM, so the last few days have been a total circus. I do not feel like paying 8€ kilo for overweight, therefore I have spent hours(!) sorting out what I want to bring.

Anyways, I really want a new bottle of Coco Chanel Mademoiselle; a fragrance I have been wearing for years. I love the twist spray: a refillable robust flagon perfect for travelling.

I adore Keira Knightley posing as the new Coco Mademoiselle girl, very sexy-chic.

I must say that I expected greater things from Miss Fields, though I love the apple-comb and the skinny jeans with her signature on the back pocket.

I am going to the Øya(Island)-festival today wearing: dress from HM, vintage bag, cardigan from Gina Tricot and shoes from Pollini.

Dressing up for a festival is actually a challenge. Øya being a festival in the centre of Oslo makes it easier because you can go home every night. Still; you never know how the weather will turn out during the day etc. Therefore I always bring a pair of black jeans, converse shoes and a rain poncho in my bag.

I will be trying to be little miss paparazzi today and get some shots of festival-chic people.

If I was to choose only one thing to buy the next months it would definitely be a pair of black skinny jeans. Black jeans can be worn with just about everything. To look fierce and chic I would combine them with high black boots to give the illusion of having endless legs.

Sass and Bide makes amazing jeans, but they are a bit expensive (£135.00). Cheap Monday, the king of skinny jeans, makes amazing pants for no money (35£). The brand is one of the biggest hypes in France, but the jeans should not be worn by anyone who does not have skinny legs. And they are hugging your legs so tight that you can see it if you have a bruise on your knee.

I am totally in love with the shiny tights/jeans Posh wore to the Spice Girls reunion. She looks like a skeleton with fake boobs, but her jeans are nice. Fantastic with black stilettos.

So; bottom line. If you feel fat, don’t know what to wear or want to look like you are wearing expensive garments: wear black.

Tonight’s outfit: crazy pattern dress

Ready for a night out in my “new” dress. I found this crazy pattern dress at a flee-marked two years ago and have been wondering if it is wearable. Turns out that it is: I cut of a bit of the length and made a waist belt of the remaining fabric.

I believe that the 60ies dresses will keep a strong status this fall. It is really a shape that looks good on most girls. I love the innocence and elegance of the short A-shaped dresses.

Anyways, I chose to wear my dress with dark tights to avoid looking too naked, and added my vintage high camel boots. The bag is a vintage shoe bag, really corky but also kind of cute.

Not that she's ever been an ugly duckling, but Emma Watson is now a beautiful swan. She has got such a unique, fresh face and I hope she will stay that way. Having read all the Harry Potter books, I hope that small girls can find inspiration in her strong and intellectual character: Hermione Granger. She is a great role model for young girls today. I get absolutely horrified when I hear that Paris and Lindsay are what 13 year olds want to become.

Anyways, over to what I usually care mostly about: the fashion! Ms. Watson has been looking chic at the Harry Potter premiers all over the world the last week, wearing couture, couture and couture. She has a classic and young look and really freshens up those Chanel dresses. Of course; the cast has got stylists dressing them up in fabulous clothes, but still, that girl owns the red carpet, in her own way.

I love that black tulip dress she wore for the UK premiere last week, it really reminds me of a Acne dress from last season.(picture link) Does anyone know where this one is from?

It has been raining in Oslo for about 2 weeks now, and a flash of the sun calls for a real Tropicana outfit. I made this dress from one of my favourite scarves. I just sewed it together in the front and I think the result it quite cool. It is a dress made for parties with a belt in the waist or the beach with flip flops and a hat.

I will wear to a party tonight it with beige sandals and my Nefititi bag, if the rain stays away.

I want a cool t-shirt for this summer. I am dreaming of a cool David Bowie tee, though band shirts are kind of boring. He is such an icon and deserves a place on my chest. I am looking for a oversized version on Ebay these days.

Speaking of icons: I have just bought a hilarious Chuck Norris t-shirt. I bought it before the terror attacks in UK tough, haha, so maybe I will keep it in my closet for a month or two before I wear it.

Anyways, I am totally in love with the t-shirt brand “Jakes”. They have awesome prints and fit, and a percentage of your money goes to children with cerebral palsy. In Oslo they are only sold at “The store” Brageveien 2a(close to Bislett)

I need something to cover up with at the beach this summer since I am not the type to run around in my bikini.

A tunic or a kaftan is perfect for this purpose. They are in light, wonderful fabrics witch are cooling and not to forget extremely stylish and sexy. You can go right from the beach to shopping or lunch, hopefully looking as cool as Kate Moss in hers.

A kaftan was originally a persian garment worn by men. They are made in cotton or silk and originally buttoned down the front(not sewn), with full sleeves. I think it sould be a simple job to make one if you have a sewing machine. I added a pattern in the slide show, so why not try`? I want mine to look like this 2000$ Badgley Mischka kaftan.

I found a couple other dream versions at net-a-porter. I love the dress from Chloé and the fantastic Pucci Kaftan would be amazing for showing of your sunglow.

Ellen loves: bright contrast colours

So, it is official: Ellen is moving to Toulouse in August. I will, of course, be exploring the shopping and fashion scene and updating my blog.

I am starting to get tired of the same sane classic colours, not to forget that I am zzzzzooo tired of seeing tights everywhere in Norway. Half of Oslo looks like modern dancers. Trends are like epidemic in this country, they don’t blow away until everyone is following it.

Anyways, the 80ies never seem to leave the world of style completely, and my newest fascination is for accessories in crazy colours.

I just love people who use crazy colours to contrast their outfit: making a boring outfit look hip by simply adding a pink patent belt or a crazy jacket, like the girl in the black dress wearing a purse in bright yellow. It allows you to dress mainstream without blending too much in to the crowd.

It is super-cool with a person who wears colourful vintage stuff, like the psychedelic jacket that awesome blond Facehunter-girl wears. Though she rocks that look, I think I will go for a more “calm” jacket. Like the blue satin dodgers jacket. I think it will be perfect for warm summer nights. I also love those yellow Wayfarers and the pink ASOS necklace.

Anyways, the high street shops are packet with candy coloured accessories and with the sale coming……perfect!

Todays outfit: remixed dress!

Here is my new semi-homemade dress. I bought the skirt in a London flee marked a couple of years ago. I have been wearing it as a tube dress, but I decided to give it a little makeover.

My idea was to add new straps, or a new top to the dress. I sewed it from two half circles of a black jean fabric. In the back I wanted the strap to go right in the middle of the back. I made sketches in paint to try to explain how I though when making it. The result is not exactly what I wanted, but I still think it is kinda cute.

I like that the dress is a bit shapeless, but chose to wear a belt in the waist (quelle surprise) when I wore it yesterday to get a more feminine look.

I’m enjoying the lovely Norwegian summer. Using my tool nr.1: the black stretch belt. Wearing a skirt from mango pulled up to be used as a waist skirt. The bag is originally vintage and I have added a new gold leather strap. The shoes are from Paris.

I most probably am moving to Toulouse, France, in the end of summer, so I try not to buy new clothes because I will have problems bringing the clothes I already have. Therefore I try to find new ways to wear my old clothes. An old pair of pants can easily become a pair shorts with the help of a scissor. And a skirt can be used in 10 ways: as a top, a dress or as a waist skirt. A top can be worn back forward for a new look, or with a belt in the waist.

I really like wearing black. It is chic and it will just never go out of style. I am going to a party and am wearing a skirt as a tube top with a belt in the waist.

I picked up the jacket at a Oslo flee-marked and I just love it. Although it is has got a bit of “old lady in Atlantic city” to it, I love the fabric of the jacket and the simple black/white pattern.

I am just in love with the concept of wearing a top under a tube dress. It gives the outfit an cool edge and makes a tube dress less formal.

I love the way the Facehunter-girl gives her blue tube dress a casual look. The white top makes a cool contrast to the metallic fabric.

SJP looks amazing in her black tubedress from her collection “Bitten”. It really makes her pretty snobby outfit look young and more casual. Though I am not really super enthusiastic about her fashion line, I think she has managed to design some really stylish basic garments. I must say that I expected a lot more from SJP, but I guess one need to realise that fabulous Carrie is a fictional character.

Scarves are not to be put away for the summer. I feel I will get through this summer without a cold.

The scull scarves are thrown away(except mine), and Sámi scarfs and kaffiyeh scarves are more and more visible in the Norwegian, and international streets. It's not about politics any longer, it is about mainstream fashion.

Everybody, seemingly at once, turned their scarves around(with the knot in the neck) to follow the trend first adapted by the emo boys and the hiphopers(weird combination).

It has become mainstream, yes, but I like it. A scarf is a fantastic way to spice up your outfit. For me it is a classic item that I welcome back in my wardrobe. Next up in line is the hat.

A scarf is a great way, and may be the only non-tacky way, to flash some logos. Ebay is packed with vintage Hermes, Dior, Pucci and Gucci scarves. So go bid! I will for sure.

I just got my brand new pair of Dior "lock" sunglasses.

Though big sunglasses are not the chic-est, they are genious when you want to hide your tierd morning face.

I think these ones are great because the colour, grey, is kind of a unique colour. And I simply adore the tackyness of the "Dior lock" on the side of the glasses.

Metallic will definitely become one of this season’s biggest trends, now retailing in all high street shops. It is a fantastic way to show of that summer glow. Not to forget amazing on the dance floor, or red carpet.

Metallic fabrics and accessories can really be combined with anything, not just all colours, but all styles. I have just bought a metallic Zara dress on UK Ebay and am eagerly waiting for its arrival in my mailbox.

I’m going to a party trying to wear some summer-ish colors. Wearing a vintage suit jacket bought in the Parisian vintage store; Free “P” Star. I love it because it has such a good fit, seemingly sewed for me.

The top is from Bik Bok and the jeans from Stella McCartney for HM.

I have added a picture of fabulous Madonna wearing the same jeans, worth bragging a bit about it I think. The bag is vintage and the white patent shoes are from my favourite Norwegian shoe store; Lille Vinkel.

Going out to enjoy a few drinks in the warm weather. Wearing a vintage silk shirt, I love it because it is so appropriate and cute. I love to rock it up with worn-out Lee Jeans and a pair of stilettos. These ones are from Bally from a few of seasons back.

I am still in love with the Chloé style of Phoebe Philo; big silk tunics and wonderfully feminine dresses. (I have added a few pics in the sidebar from her Chloé Days.)

The sunglasses are from HM and were 7$, affordable. Having cheap sunglasses are a great thing when you go out, it is the worst thing ever losing your fabulous and expensive ones. There is something with a designer case that is like a magnet to pickpockets (or drunk girls) at bars. (consider yourself warned!:)

Last time in Paris my watch got stolen, so now I am hoping to find a new and stylish one.

I have not really stayed updated on the wrist watch trends, but for me it is important to find a timeless watch. Something that will stay on my wrist for years.

I have been snoozing around Ebay and I have found a couple models I like. All of them are male models though. I think androgynous watches are the most elegant. I don’t like the feminine petite watches for some reason.

A watch is a cool, masculine, complicated machinery. Making it feminine is for some reason wrong in my eyes.

Style.com is the best fashion site on the internet today. They are always updated on what’s happening on and of the runway. It’s is really like a schoolbook in fashion. They also have archives of the runway shows about 5 years back in time.

My newest discovery is their podcast service. Use this link and you can get interviews, backstage footage, runway action, fashion history etc to your itunes or your Ipod. They also have weekly “show” called Style Studio which features designer profiles, international street style, and passes to all the best fashion parties.

New combination:

I have been playing a bit around in my closet and came up with this cool combination. I have used a high waist silk skirt from Bik Bok and combined it with a purple top from Morgan. I like the contrast between the two fabrics, and I'm still a huge fan of the waist belt.

I am trying to find an outfit for a party next week and added camel shoes and clutch to make it less formal. The bag is from Egypt and the shoes are vintage. I love them because they are the kind you can run a marathon in without getting a foot ache.

I know that a lot of bloggers have commented on the outfits on the red carpet of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala in NYC. But, I just had to express my deep concern with letting Jessica S. enter the carpet at all in that dress. She must clearly be blind.

She looks so slutty, but not even in a sexy way. Her boobs seems like they are going opposite directions witch makes a petite person look very broad. I had actually started to believe that she had gotten herself a decent stylist. But she must have two: Ms Cool Boho and Ms Slutty(herself?). She really needs to figure out witch to stick with. (I know: my name is Ellen, and I have to get my 5min internet-gossip each day)

Over to me, this is my outfit for today. Just a really laid back outfit. I love my new stripy HM dress. I feel really girly in it but not in a uncomfy way. I teamed it up with my favourite ballerina flats.

And yes! I am a fan of Paint!

I am looking for new inspiration for this summer and after seeing the movie “Factory girl” I’m totally hocked to that mod look of Twiggy and Edie Seqwick.

Big earrings, short A-shaped dresses and last but not least: big eyes with tons of fluid eyeliner.

I can recommend the movie. I especially loved Guy Pearce portraying Andy Warhol. He is scary similar to the original as one sees him in his art-movies. I have been in love with Warhol for a while after bumping into his work all over Paris. I love how modern art are more open to your own interpretations. Or you can just laugh at it, if you want to.

As always, Face hunter’s pages are full of stylish people. I particularly liked the awesome style of this New Yorker.

It suddenly struck me; she is wearing the same t-shirt as Wham in their 80ies monster hit: “wake me up before you go go!” I want that t-shirt!

So, after a bit of Google-ling I found a couple of versions of the t-shirt. Turns out it was originally a slogan that came from a Buddhist exhibition.

Anyways.. Katharine Hamnett has made a new version of the t-shirt for 45£, but you can find it for about 15$ on Ebay.

I love the sight of my new shoes. I picked them up at a Oslo flee marked this weekend. There is nothing more beautiful that 4 pairs of new-vintage shoes. Sigh! Looking forward to wearing them.

The good thing about vintage shoes is that they are always good quality because somebody has used them before you. You get so much more for your money than if you buy fake leather shoes at a cheap store.

Buying vintage is also better for the environment.(Yup, I’m one of many who is brainwashed by Al Gore)

Going out for a walk my new balloon dress from Cubus in Norway with a belt bought in Paris. I love the strong colour of the belt, it can really light up any outfit.

The pumps are from Noir Kennedy in Paris and are the type you can wear for an entire day without problems.

I went on a flee-marked tour this weekend in Oslo. Oslo is definitely the best place for flee-markets because people give away the most amazing things. I used about 200NOK and got 5 pair of shoes, 3 bags, 1 belt and 2 tops.

Anyways I got caught by two journalists, from the Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten, at one of the markets, and there you go: Ellen is a Norwegian superstar. Anyways, now everybody knows I’m not a rich b*** with tons of clothes, just an economic genius, with a cool hat, who knows how to get the most of her money.

Zoe looks better than ever in this cute DG dress with black pantyhose. It is simple and finishes of her cool 70ies look.

It’s amazing how Britney Spears makes this wonderful dress look like it is from the 5$ bin in a cheap store. Who else would style it with boots that makes her lower legs look fat, a horrible hat and unfashionable sunglasses? Horror!

This is actually the dress my aunt used when she married her husband in a 70ies hippie wedding. It used to be ankle-long, but 4 minutes of sewing was all it took to make this petite babydoll dress.

I think it’s very summer-ish and have already started wearing it with my favourite the dark pantyhose. I love this dress because it is so cute, but can be rocked up with accessories.

Red passion!

Last night snow destroyed my dreams of summer in Norway. Quite depressing I must say.

So… I dived into my wardrobe looking for colours and came up with a new cool formal outfit for the summer. I combined a vintage red skirt with a top I bought last year at Mango. It gives a classy, almost tailored look.

But, red is a dangerous colour. It is what you wear a day you feel ready to razzle dazzle and get the attention.

Personally I’m usually more fan of wearing red accessories and blend in the crowd a bit more. After all, it is not every day I feel ready to be Mademoiselle LookAtMe, but the dress will be used one day….. I hope.

I have just returned after spending my Easter holidays in the northern parts of Denmark. More specificly Løkken in Jylland. It has been wonderful just doing nothing, eating loads of fantastic food and shopping a bit as well.

I spent one day snoozing around in the Danish city Ålborg. Ålborg is a good place for shopping Danish brands like Day Birger et Mikkelsen, Marlene Birger, Bruuns Bazar, Munthe plus Simonsen and Arena jewellery. Denmark is also a great place for shopping interior items.

Here is my 5 favourite shops in Ålborg, I am sorry to say that I just didn’t find any vintage shops in Ålborg..

“Inside Living”
A great interior shop with everything you need to decorate a light and wonderful informal beach house. Prices about 2/3 compared with Norway. A great aesthetic experience just walking around in the shop.

Tiffany (Bispengade 6)
One of the best shops in Ålborg, always updated on what is happening on the Danish fashion scene. They mix Danish brands with international hypes like Cheap Monday, Acne, Cacharel, Tiger of Sweden. They also have the cool Danish jewellery brand Arena who makes simple but beautiful gold jewellery for prices between 80-300€.

Søstrene Grene (Nytorv 1)
The shop where everybody can afford something. They have everything from purses to coffee to painting, all wrapped in a cozy and cool atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit, I guarantee you will leave with something.

Company’s Bispensgade 26
The shop that specializes on Danish brands. Denmark has in my opinion the coolest brands in Scandinavia. You will also find that the Danish brands are 20-30% cheaper in Denmark.

Ellen=Krystle Carrington

Doing a bit of a funky pose here in my super 80ies dress purchased for 20 DKK at a Danish flee marked. Originally I looked like Krystle Carrington from “the Dynasty” with shoulder pads from hell.

Shoulder pads can often be easily removed, so I wear it like a top now. I think it is a fun and sexy retro garment. And for some reason it always smells like Chanel No 5, I guess the last owner was a stylish, well smelling lady.

I googled the 80ies tv show “the Dynasty” and found a bunch of really cool pictures with hot garments. I would really like to find that funky gold jacket Linda Evans is wearing on this picture.

Whoever said that the 80ies was tacky? The 80ies is really cool; you just need to tone it down a bit.

A genius move: buy ballet shoes!

The first thing I bought for this summer was a pair of black ballet shoes. There is simply no better investment for being chic and cool this summer. You can wear them with jeans, shorts, dress or a chicken costume and feel comfortable and great.

I bought mine for 30 euros in Paris. Last year I bought 100 dollar CK flats and they lasted 3 weeks, so I decided to go cheap and then buy new ones if they fall apart.

If I don’t have shoes to match my outfit I always go for ballet flats, its genius and oh so cute.

The colours of the spring 2007!

I played a bit around in Paint and made what I think is a reasonable colour cart for Ellen’s closet this spring/summer.

I want to keep the basic garments in basic colour and then spice it all up with accessories in strong colours like purple and clear blue. That way I can hopefully wear the basic clothes I buy for this summer years to come.

In these times with global warming it’s important to buy garments you won’t just use a couple of times. Or, be my guest, as long as you buy them vintage you are not supporting mass production on Chinese sowing machines.

Back to the fashion: I love purple; it’s a new colour in my closet. Madonna brought it in with her “Hung up” tiny dancing suit. I love the almost black purple, it changes colour with the light.

THE SUN IS HERE!

This week the sun has finally made its entrance in Norway after a dark winter(yuuk). This means that little Ellen has been tanning all week but has now found her way back to her beloved computer.

Anyways, spring is the time for picking up new trends hence using some cash. I spent the day at school bidding on wonderful vintage things on Ebay. I’m thinking of buying another swimsuit from American Apparel. I love the colour on this one. I’m looking forward to be a classy swimsuit-wearing girl on the beach this summer.

The sunglasses are from Dior and I hope I’ll get them. (49$) Slimmer sunglasses might be doing comeback right now, but some days it’s wonderful to hide half your tired face behind gigantic shades.

Yup, I admit having a petit weakness for Paris. And I must say not less after having seen the movie “Paris je t’aime”.

Anyways; I have wanted to buy the mini Eiffel tower key chains for a long time (10 for 7,50 euros). And I started wearing one as a necklace after seeing a super-chic Parisian girl looking great with it in Facehunters pages. I think it is funny and cool, not what you expect to see a person wearing.

Kipling is back?

I must say I was pretty surprised when I saw this add in a French magazine. Kipling is the mid 90ies in a nutshell; I remember that the coolest kids at school had the colourful bags with the stuffed gorilla. And now I would rather use a super marked plastic bag than one of those ugly synthetic things.

Anyways, Kipling is back, and I stopped by their new Paris store in 223 rue St Honore (1arr). The new bags are actually very cool and buyable, and I like their ads as well. It got my attention anyways, a bit of nostalgia I guess.

Back in Norway!

I’m back in Norway with loads of material for new posts. I should be able to keep my blog alive for some time;).

I only had about 3 hours in Paris, but of course I digged up a new vintage store for my blog.

It is called Tempolini and is about 10 min from Sacre Cæur. (M: Anvers, 5 Rue Gérando, 9 arr) The cute lady who owns the store offers shirts, dresses, boots, pumps, vintage Nike and PanAm bags and vintage accessories such as earrings and necklaces. I found a short tweed vintage LaFayette jacket for 30 euroes, and a kitsch vintage Burberry shirt for 20 euros. I will definitely return next time I'm in Paris to buy some 60ies plastic earrings and clutch bags.

The Ark won Eurovision (Melodi festivalen) song contest!

I posted a while ago saying that I wanted “the Ark”, one of my favourite bands, to win the Swedish Eurovision song contest.

And I’m happy to report that they did indeed win! Maybe quite obvious since they are the biggest band in Sweden...

I would actually like a oversized necklace like the one the vocalist is wearing.

Enjoying the first hint of summer, with a more summer-ish jacket from HM.

I have recently started wearing a fur(fake) scarf in the neck. It’s originally from a jacket and I fastened it with a safety pin. It started out as a solution to a emergency: hide that my face was 10 shades tanner than my neck after a bad selftan.

Anyhow, I think the result is quite chic and different, so I continued wearing it, and probably will until the cold wind in Oslo stops.

International Women's Day

Well, thanks to our dear Norwegian foremothers, we can today call ourselves equal to our Norwegian brothers. Today is the international women’s day and we should be proud of where we are today, though much is to be done worldwide.

Soon the Unites States will hopefully have it's first female president. Go Hillary! Witch reminds me that I crave to find one of the t-shirts Marc Jacobs designed for her campaign in 2004....

Anyways, thought I ought to send a message with my outfit today. So I chose a t-shirt dissing one of the world’s biggest icons and maybe worst rolemodels: Kate Moss.

The t-shirt is from David and Goliath and very funny. Not that I don’t like Kate Moss, haha, I love her style. But nobody can actually disagree that se did blow and is probably still blowing.

Well... I got weak and bought another pair of, yes, boots. Somehow my passion of boots never seems to cease. I guess I love the way they can just give an outfit that extra wooosh..(or whatever)

These are a bit different though, because they’re ankle boots. I’m quite pleased with the buy. They look like the bottom part of a pair of cowboy boots, which is funky.

Dress with cool pattern:

This is a dress my grandmothers sister gave me, so it is an authentic 1960ies piece.

The fabric is really psychedelic and the cut of the dress is wonderfully shapeless. It was originally about 20 cm longer, but I sewed it up to get the length I wanted.

If I can avoid it, I never cut the bottom of the dress off, because you never know what length you might want 2-3 years from now.

Me wants blue pumps!

I’m currently dreaming of a pair of vintage-pumps in this intense blue colour.

I found a couple pairs on EBay, but I don’t like the fact that the shipping is always about 10$ extra for Norway.

I would love to style them with really simple colours like beige, black or grey, so that they make a really cool contrast.

I’m going to Paris next week, and I hope to bring home a fabulous pair of blue pumps. To find that I’m definitely checking out the Sunday marked at Porte de Clingancourt(Metro Porte de Clingancourt).

It’s a weekly vintage-marked, based around antique shops. It is really fun snoozing around in there, with furniture from the 15th century etc. You can also find luxury vintage-antique shops with couture Chanel gowns from the 1940ies and so on.

Outside the fancy antique marked, it is a crazy flee marked. There are a lot of fake goods and 10 euro watches, but also some vintage boots.

But, if you go there I must warn you. It is a REALLY dodgy area. Safe at daytime, but dont brind valuables, get home before 18h, and stay away from small alleys etc.

I love how these sunglasses are so different from the oversized bee-like sunglasses that have been on Norwegian noses for the last 5 years.

Well, Kate Moss does it, and the world follows. High waist pants are entering the high street shops, and I think I like them.

These blue shorts are really cool and comfortable. I have chosen to wear them with a thin leather belt, with a tank top inside.

Yes, they are really 80ies, but old Beverly Hills episodes are actually one of my inspirations these days. (Being a student gives me the chance to enjoy daytime television)

Fight the booring winter: wear a flower scarf

I love this latino-grandma scarf. It is so colourful, in contrast to the snow. I got the idea after seeing a FABULOUS paris-guy wearing one, captured by facehunter.

As you might have understood I do not like winter. And I become bitter when a reliable source in Paris tells me that it is 18 degrees there now.

The only positive thing I see in winter is boots and scarves.

This one does not really match with anything, but I love that about it. It spreads colour and hope of flowers in the future.

So, I might have to wait until May before I see flowers outside again, but it helps seeing them in the mirror.

Dressing up for Sunday

Today’s outfit is two dresses with a tie in the waist, and my favourite: the black wool pantyhose. I realise that there is a pattern in what I wear these days: belt/ribbon in the waist and clutch bags are what’s on my mind.

This particular clutch-bag is really a vintage tourist Nefertiti souvenir from Egypt. I will definitely buy more wearable Egypt souvenirs if I ever travel there.

I love the Egyptian-period(Cleopatra osv); tons of eye-makeup and lots of metallic fabrics, two of this springs main trends.

I am going to a birthday party tonight, and decided to pull my favourite last minute manoeuvre. I love to use outdated, long skirts as tube dresses. With the right accessories, nobody will notice.

I found this stretch-waist skirt at FRETEX in Norway. The fabric is fantastic. I added a silk ribbon, a matching bag and a silk rose bought in a textile-shop.

I am quite pleased with the result; it reminds me of a summer wedding.

I have a thing for boots. I love seeing them and I love wearing them. Therefore I do own a couple of pairs, and I cannot stop buying them.

I cannot imagine the vintage-looking boot style,(flat with a semi-round toe) going out of fashion, so that is almost always the style I go for.

Vintage-boots are my favourite. Not only are they affordable, but you also know for sure that they are good quality. After all; they have already survived at least one owner. You will not find non-leather vintage boots for one reason: they are lousy quality, and you cannot fix scratches and colour flaws with shoe polish.

I always buy my boots about one size to big so that I can wear a pair of wool-socks inside them. The idea is to look good, but still have 10 toes and not ice taps in the end of the day(right now, it is -16 degrees in Oslo).

Ijust wanted to tip everyone of a FANTASTIC vintage-shop just up the rue from the last mentioned Depot-Vendre.

It is called Mamie

This shop is a 3 floor Rockabilly paradise. It’s is overfilled with 60ies dresses, clutch bags and vintage-designer coups as a pair Chanel pumps for 40 euros.

So fold up your cuffs and start digging for coups.

My best vintage buy so far is from (surprise surprise) Paris. It’s a Diane von Furstenberg wrap-dress with hound-tooth pattern. I payed 120 euroes for it at a so-called Depot-Vendre; which means that people sell their old clothes through a shop.

A wrap-dress is a genius thing, because it will adapt to any body-shape; I can basically wear it the rest of my life. The wrap dress is also a timeless shape that for some reason always stays in the fashion picture. No wonder that Mrs Furstenberg has made her fortune on these dresses.

Anyway, the dress was my way to follow the hound-tooth trend this autumn, but I think it will be wearable even when hound-tooth is a done and buried hype.

I found the shop in Montmarte. The shop is called Le Jupon rouge.

The selection varies, but I’ve also found a MARNI 70ies inspired dress for 150 euroes. So it definitely got coup potential.

I have decided to not wear bikini this summer. I have never been comfy wearing it. I think it is too similar to underwear.

So, this summer I plan to leave a bit more to the imagination, by wearing this fabulous swimsuit by American Apparel. It is still very sexy, and has a low-back so that you do not end up with a completely white back after summer.

There is no American Apparel shop in Norway, but fortunately they ship to Norway.

Save money: make your own pants:

I am the kind of girl who loves her jeans. I wear them until they fall apart, and when they do, it’s a sad day for Ellen.

Anyway, I had a fantastic pair of jeans from Levis, but they almost fell apart. And I feel like the whole ”show parts of your bum through a hole in your jeans” thing is a bit to slutty for me. So, what I did was that I sewed a new pair of jeans with the Levis jeans and an old pair of Miss Sixty jeans.

So the top is Levis, but parts of the leg is Miss Sixty. It's a quite easy procedure. You should use a straight seam first and then a zig-zag the seam to avoid the jean-fabric from laddering.

I made a pair of skinny jeans with really long legs so that they wrinkle at the bottom of the legs.

I have a normal, black wool-coat and must say I think it’s a bit booring. So when I feel like a change, I add a belt.

A stretch-belt really gives you a waist. Personally I’m into stretchbelts at the moment. I have three, all from Paris.

I bought all of them in the vintageshop “Rag” wich is neighbour to the famous Centre de Pompidou. They have the best selection of vintage boots and sell vintage Burberry coats for 80 euros.

Sometimes I catch myself in dressing booring in the winter, choosing the warm and confitable. There are many ways to spice up the winter and feel chic even though its -5 degrees outside. I love to use glitter scarfs like this one, to razzle dazzle everyone.

I bought this one from HM in Trondheim this summer, and I started using it this winter, because I got so boored with the all the wool. It's so fun wearing it because people always comment on it.

So introduce a hint of glam in a dark winter day, and have fun.

Fight the booring winter: Wear a cool cap

I bought this cap at Assesorice in Norway and I think it's really cool.

I have finally found the shape I have been looking for. The shape is a lot like the Chanel cap Anne Hathaway is wearing in “The Devil Wears Prada”. It is a georgous and fun way to spice up a booring outfit, and it's warm as well so you can protect yourself from -5 degrees like we are having in Norway these days.

Ofcourse not everyone looks good in a cap like this. You probably have to try on about 100 before you find the shape that fits you. But once you have found it, it's worth it, because a cool cap can save you from any bad hair day!

The Ark in Eurovision

Do it classy, add a silk ribbon!

I love silk ribbons, they are cheap (20NOK pr m) and they can really give your outfit a classy finish.

I love to wear them around my waist or in the neck.

Here I have shown how I upgraded a outdated dress.

I found the dress in the earlier mentioned parisian vintage shop Free “P” Star. It was too ugly and sparkeling for me, but I bought it anyway.

The dress is really low-necked, wich I did not like. Therefore, I bought 2m of powderpink ribbon and made a big bow in the front. I think the result is really cool, and I love the contrast between the fabric of the dress and the silk ribbon.

Going out

Going out tomorrow night to have a few biers at a student pub with some friends. I have always been the girl who likes to be overdressed rather than looking normal in a pair of jeans and a booring tanktop. Sometimes I might look silly, but I don’t know, I like the attention.

This dress is from Paris, and very glam. It is very short, but I still don’t think it looks slutty because of the very dark and non see-through tights I use under them. I bought it for about 50NOK at my favourite vintage-shop in Paris.

This is the ultimate shop for a girl or boy with a love for vintage shopping. Free ‘P’ Star has tonns of glitering and glammy clothes from the 60, 70 and 80ies. You can find amazing dresses, ex-army jackets for 50NOK and last but not least fur jackets for 400-700NOK.

One of my friends from Paris had this amazing animalprint silk tunic-dress from Zara. It just looked amazing with 70's inspired hair and my favourite this season: the black woolen pantyhoes. But the dress cost 100 euros, and I was broke, sad story really.

When I'm boored, I tend to raid ebay looking for vintage coups. So far I’ve not yet bought anything on ebay, but when I found “THE DRESS” on ebay for 16$ there was no doubt in my mind. “Click!” and the dress was finally mine. It doesn't get any easier than that! Two weeks later, it arrived in my mailbox. So not only did I save about 700NOK, but I also saved the stress of actually going to the store.

So, the lesson of the day: if you have seen a garment that you really want but dont like the price? Look for it at ebay after about 1 month, and who knows, maybe God is on your side.

Japan is cool!

I just love japanese steet fashion. They dare to go CRAZY with colours and patterns, and it the outcome? Yes its caotic, but REALLY cool.

I especially love how nr 2 from the left mixes traditional tatami sandals with her own look.

As I live in a cold and colourless winterland I wish that us Norwegians would dare to throw ourself out in the pool of colour like these girls;)

But if you would raither watch other ppl do the diving in the colour pool, then buy the book "Fruits" wich is a genious book featuring japanese street fashion.

To wear the scarf or not

Well, the scull scarf Alexander McQueen inspired Skull scarf has been in the media and fashion world for over a long while now, and I must say that I'm intrigued.

The scarf became more usual than it's Palestin relative, in Norway. And as explained before, once we Norwegians like a trend, we wrape it with our over-usage, so that it never will become trendy again. But, this time I will not accept it. Heh!

Anyways, in Paris I saw this scarf in all the hip stores, and in the end I bought one for myself. Naturally a "version", not the real McQueen shit. I've got a friend with this really peppy style and that scarf makes a really cool contrast. I think the scarf is really cool and gives an edge to an outfit.

This is a really good shopping street and a parallelle street to Rue De Rivoli.

Kennedy Noir is a mix of vintage and new clothing with hot brands like Cheap Monday. They have a FANTASTIC wall of vintage shoes where you can find the LOVE OF YOUR LIFE, I swear! This is the place where I found my 25 euro Armani shoes and my snakeskinstyle black dancing shoes (5euro).

Look for the shop with blood and coffins in the window, it's a really emo-esque boutique.

The girl who drowned in her shoes

There are two things I love that fits on a foot. There are shoes and there are boots.

I've had a lot of fun diving into french vintage stores and flee markets looking for the shoes of my dreams. And I've found several good canidates.

A vintage pair of shoes is almost always an unique pair of shoes. And the fact that they have already been worn really shows you that it's good quality.

One must not forget the fantastic price, you can and will after shoozing around Paris for a day or two, find a designer coup. Like my fantastic retro-eighties plastic Armani shoes, found in Paris in the store Noir Kennedy.

My view on fashion (as I can explain it in 5min)

My Fashion philisophy in short version. (Well, I know it seems quite shallow to acually have a fashion philosophy, but I do, so hate me...)

I believe in trends, I do! But I do not believe in collective trends, like those we find a lot of in Norway. When a fashion tendency hits the land of the vikings it spreads like an epidemic, and soon becomes a monsterlike overkill creature that in the end kills the concept.

Some of the monster-Norwegian-stop-wearing-that-shit!-trends we’ve had so far have been: poncho, indian-boots, pyjamapants worn as normal pants, Canada Goose jackets, and not to forget, the legendary extremely low waist pants.

Many encourage us to follow the trends set by the top designers but mainly by the highstreet shops. I say no! I believe in personal style. Not everybody looks good in a poncho, but somebody still looks fabulous in it, even if the trend was dead and buried 2 years ago.

Yup that was a lot of mess, I'm sorry, but I'm going to work on a new text on this subject.
